Background of the story:
You send out the resume, you get the first call from HR (or some fake HR), the question is:
How much salary do you want?
Wrong answer:
-- I don't know.
-- I don't care.
-- I want $#####.
Here is how you can say to postpone the answer:
At this moment, I am realy focusing on what is the responsibility of this position and what value I can bring to the company. Would you please tell me more about this position?
or:
Sure, as you know, salary is very important. Since I am a professional, I am more interesting on how can I use my expertise to make contribution to the company (or to the team), can we focus on the job duty first?
Summary:
Usually at the begining stage, the HR is trying to use salary question to filter the candidate out, what you need to do is try to postpone the salary question to later stage.
