who was liable? Any police report? Any personal injury? Do you or him have insurance? Any witness?

If just property damange without personal injury and both parties have insurance, I don't see it's necessary to get lawyer involved (and ripped off by them). Your insurance company should help you on this. Furthermore, if the other driver was 100% liable, his/her insurance company should cover your damange 100%.

If there was a personal injury, then probably you want to get lawyer involved. It will take several years to get settled and usually you don't have the energy or time to handle this, so better to get professional help.
