One more comment:

All major DSLR cameras (possibly except Nikon D40) are more than good enough for a beginner (they are better than professional DSLRs just 5 years ago). The difference between being able to take certain pictures and not being able to do the same thing is the lens. So do not spend the money on an expensive camera without appropriate lenses.
