some misunderstanding of my situation. I am not going to ask for a promotion right now. I am just thinking of how to deal with my boss during performance review in the future and fight for better grades. I am also confused about how to ask for a promotion half a year or a year later when it is the fair time for me to get promoted.

Another info is a coworker of mine just got promoted without any noticeable contribution. He came to our group less than 2 years ago. 18 to 24 month is a fair time for a analyst like us to be promoted, I think. But I feel that I have to ask for that to happen. My boss won't come to me automatically and say: Hey, I think I should give you a promotion since you have been doing well.
