S410 might a better choice and

it is much easier for you to carry and put in your dipper bag.

You don’t need 300D, but D70. Just kidding…

If you don’t have any SLR equipments, and like to start taking some serious pictures, I would recommend Canon G5. I guess right now $550 may get it from the ebay.
