Kids complained that their machine always act up after a few test runs, though it often worked as expected in the first few rounds. They all agreed and suspected that it must be rubber bands causing the problem. After rounds of rounds of testing, I asked if they knew how many rubber bands were there. They did not know for sure and could only guess. After a few more tests, I asked one of them "are you not going to find out?". They paused and resisted, finally counted the band one by one. To their surprise, they found lots of broken bands. After that they started tracking the number of bands damaged, removed and added. A little change made a big impact.
