Need some help: hurt by school discussion about China

Hello,

I come here to ask advices...

My son came back home very unhappy today. Because on his Social Studies class today, they are learning about democracy. Teacher and students in class talked a lot thing about China (even there is kid mentioned that in China people will have to pay fines to have baby).  Per my son,  "everything they talked about China are negative".  He is very much emotionally involved and wanted to defend China (he always says he is a Chinese, although I told him he is Chinese American). But he is only 5th grade and does not have the knowledge to stand up for China. Espeicially his teacher also said things negative about China. He is very depressed today.  
I am going to write an email to this SS teacher advice him to at least stay netural in leading these kind of class discussion and wanted him to know that today's discussion hurt my son.  What else I should put in the email to raise alarm for this teacher?  This is a ntaionlly top ranked school. Something must be wrong.  

Also, I wanted to learn how to prepare kid from being hurt in these kind of negative environement.

Any advice will be much appreaciated!
