I think he may need blood test first to get PSA number and others.  If it's above 4 (it's likely at this age), will your dad want to get biopsy to see if there are any cancer cells? I don't think US doctor will schedule a surgery without any blood test first.  He will also need to get clearance as ok for the surgery, which includes EKG to make sure his heart is ok, may also need ultra sound for his heart, and also blood work for surgery.  All of those tests before the surgery will cost a lot. I know for robotic prostate removal surgery, the cost will be about $50K (around $100RMB in China).  You may google your question and found some people talked about their costs for the surgery.

 

If your dad doesn't have insurance in the US, it's better to have the surgery done in a big city in China.  The cost will be much lower.
