Thanks our status is green card now, what are the possible penal

The thing is, if we don't hire a lawyer, what is the possibility to lose our custody? We both love our son very much.
I checked the web, the penalty for child abuse misdemeaner could be:
Fine
anger management class
comunity service
jail

THe child protection service already evaluated our case and decided that our child is conditionally safe, so I don't think there are big chance that we will lose our custody, right?
