按照糖尿病的思路看，饮食里的糖过高及少动（精制淀粉和糖及工业化食品加上卡洛里过高），血糖血脂代谢失衡问题，大脑部分的胰岛素抗拒，都是因素。这个思路也能解释为什么APOE4的基因同时显示冠心病和痴呆症的风险。它也能部分解释，为什么用酮来代替葡萄糖作为大脑的主要能量（椰子油生酮饮食）能缓解阿氏痴呆症的症状。
