If I tell my young patient that his renal failure is due to carbonated drink/coca-cola, whatever drink it is, without doing any further investigation, I will probably have to talk to his lawyer second day.
Common things are common first for renal failure: In US, Diabetes, hypertension, ...IgA nephropathy is common in China. Glomerulonephritis; ANCA, anti-GBM, lupus.... Obstructive nephropathy.
Fructose-uric acid-CAD/CKD is already known, but not NaHCO3, as you'd mentioned.
Without doing these investigation before simply blaming carbonated drink, it is simply crazy! I do not think most Chinese doctors will even think this kind of post is correct. It is just some "Public media stunning"!
