This is the result of lack of primary care in China, and I think you meant he is in China.  Even in US, without a good primary care system, patients often end up a big disaster.  I still remembered a guy had a big MI on a Christmas Day, followed by cardiogenic shock, stents, CABG, intubation, renal failure/CRRT,and etc.  Guess what, after he got out of hospital, he never came back to primary care.  Of course he never had one before.

 

Also, the Chinese tradition is that: if I go to a doctor who tells me everything is alright and back one year for annual check, most Chinese patients won't be happy because doctor supposes to give medication when they see patients (of course there is some strong connection between Pharma and docs in Chinese medical system).

 

Most Chinese only go to doctors when something is wrong.  This has to be changed!
