Rheumatoid factor is not very specific for rheumatoid arthritis, Anti-CCP IgG is. But if you are positive for one and have signs and symptoms, you might still have the disease, a condition called "CCP negative" rheumatoid arthritis. You should be treated by a rheumatologist. The protocol is to start the following medications:

1. prednisone (best if start within 6 months of starting of symptoms)
2. methrotrexate (best medication if you are not planning to become pregnant)
3. hydroxychloroquine

If you have to wait a long time before seeing a rheumatologist, you can ask your primary care doctor to start those medications, if he/she is confident enough to prescribe them.

CCP negative rheumatoid arthritis is much better than ordinary rheumatoid arthritis because you might not take medications for life like the regular rheumatoid arthritis.
