I had gone through all the same concerns and worries as you did for my son when he was 22 months old. Because his speech delay, we took him to see the specialist and luckily she ruled out the auctism possiblity. I knew someone who did the samething as you did, and the boy did improve a lot in China including talking and learning. But you still can tell a bit difference, this kind of kids are usually very smart in certain area (math, remembering things and putting puzzles) and a lot of them become professors later on in science area. The problem is that many schools do not like to accept them if they do not get extra funding since the school policy requires one full time assistant to help them in school. You can try to apply in different school, but I guess they already have his name on file. depending where you are, the funding may not be that hard to get. It is just the school who want =s money upfront.
