I don't think his wife can control him that much.
If he is thinking about his father, he will find a way to contact him.
Maybe he has his own problems now, maybe he is sick or something happened.
Or maybe he has a really really bad relationship with his father somehow.
We don't see the whole picture here. So, can not blame on his wife.
