It's better actually if the child can sing Do, Re, Me. Because later on he can sing the melody out. If you have patience, can train his listening and sight reading. That's very good and very important for music learning in the future. And most teacher wouldn't have time to take care of that. If he can have good foundation of these, when he really starts to play, he will fly.
