One of my nephew was like that. getting into all sorts of troubles at school. Finally my brother was fed up with going to principle's office and asked the school to let the boy skip two grades. That only worked for about half a year before he started to be bored again. luckily, as soon as he was in the second year of high school and have the freedom to choose his AP class, his grade went up(yes, that kid never had straight A before high school), and he eventally got accepted by one of the TOP ivies but didn't go.
However, I think all of these kids suffer socially, including my daughter who was also forced to skip a grade(her case was similar but not as bad as my nephew, at least she didn't get me called into principle's office every other day).
I do wish I had spend more time researching the private schools and see whether there is one that would offer lots of other activities(the one like hobo sent her kids to) to keep the kids stimulated while keeping them at the grade level. One thing for sure is that keeping them at the current school at the current grade definitely will not work.
It's hard for some kids to control their boredness in school
