The researchers acknowledged that the exceptionally shorter life expectancy of emergency physicians is an outlier, perhaps due to a much smaller sample size and that it has only recently been counted a separate medical specialty as part of this ongoing research. As part of this study, doctors who may have worked in emergency medicine at any time had an average life expectancy of 71. 3 years.
