I bought a $1700 Yamaha for my son (They discounted to $1400,I also spent $100 to $200 for warranty, but we never go back the store to do something) when he was in middle school. His first flute teacher said it would be good enough for him to finish high school even college. The teacher got a BA degree in flute but she has the same flute my son has, of course, she said she wish she could buy a $8000 one for herself.
