brief encounter with him 10+ years. Nice, dependable, helpful to others, probably a group leader since childhood. Much mature than others. Not likely to commit something like this. If this is done by someone else, he probably would try to stop others from committing such foolish act and give them good reasons.

That's the part that is sad.
