Neither names are of forms (曲式结构). And both can be in various forms. And through the history of music, both Prelude and Overture have developed emormously in term of formal structures. Wikipedia has brief discription on those terms: Prelude, Overture, and Form.
BTW, it is my first time to learn that 序曲 & 前奏曲 are interchangeable. Thanks for the enlightenment. Would you please go one step further by letting me know the source of reference?
Neither 序曲 nor 前奏曲 has anything to do w/ 曲式结构.
