私立大学招生会看学生父母的学历和社会背景吗？

我很疑惑的是，如果私立大学招生完全不参考父母的背景的话，那为什么学生在申请的时候要填这些信息呢？另外学生如果在这方面造假的话，学校是不是也无从查证。
