实际上Caltech竞赛成绩下降并不是因为DEI。以前，Caltech有一个专门给竞赛生的奖学金(Axline)，所以可以招到不少竞赛生，竞赛成绩也不错。但是尽管提供奖学金，不少学生还是据了Caltech去了MIT。Caltech觉得这笔钱花的不值，就在2010年取消了这个奖学金。
