So we have two students:

• Jane was accepted at Harvard to study English
• Margaret was accepted at X university to study engineering

We can only guess that Jane is probably an amazing personality and student. The fact that she is studying English is irrelevant. If you believe that English is easier than engineering, you are mistaken. For example, try to read a poem that is half a page long and then write a meaningful Essay that is 10 pages long. Mastering the English language is not trivial.

We don’t know much about Margaret. The fact that she is not a Harvard student does not diminish her intellect in any way.

Both Jane and Margaret have the opportunity to excel in their field. Who knows, Jane may become a supreme-court justice and Margaret may be the COO of the next Facebook.

When they grow up and have a career, we will be far better judges. Meanwhile, life goes on. Getting into college is just the beginning.

There is a famous Greek saying by Solon, “Never admire anyone before their end.” (Typically translated as “Call no man happy until he is dead, but only lucky.”) So, please, stop judging people based on where they are admitted in college.
