导师的儿子生不逢时，也去了清华，但是是工农兵学员，后来也来美国。我在导师家读过导师儿子从美国寄来的家书，说是不容易搞到奖学金上学。

我来美国后，88年回国探亲时，导师要我带一本方励之赠送的书给导师儿子，去过他家，导师儿子当时在和太太想着法子移民加拿大做高中老师，后来就没有联系了。

子女教育：为什么要学习历史

有人说忘记过去就意味着背叛，是列宁说的。列宁臭大街了，除了在西朝鲜，所以列宁的话好像不能听。

那么换一句吧：“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” 这句确实好多了，第一比较精确，第二，不是像各种主义者那样，给你一个划成敌对势力的帽子，而是告诉你，人不从历史学习，就会重复过去的经历。

中国是一个不会从历史学习的民族。《资治通鉴》的本意就是要皇帝从历史学习，不要犯一样的错。

我曾经花了一两年，把这本书读了两遍，可以说，历代的错误基本下一代都重复了，大的方向基本是rinse and repeat，小的细节上，各代五花八门想了很多招数，似乎都针对前代的教训。但最终的结果是什么呢？叫然并卵。所以说，他们对历史的学习，总体是不及格的。

那么不是帝王家的我们学历史又有什么用呢？

学历史，如果你能学明白的话，是最好的探究人性的方法。比读什么文学名著，或者什么政治学哲学，或者什么社会学伦理学之类的，远远更加有用。

但要学明白，是不容易的。可以说，99%的历史学者，教授，都是大方向没感觉，历史没学懂。

学懂，第一需要悟性，第二需要人生体验。

当然也是有捷径的，比如有人给你指点。这就像案例教学，拿一个事情出来分析，把里面的看似简单的东西寻根问底，前因后果打破沙锅问到底，然后把同一件事，给你讲出了完全崭新的理解。这种方式，其实像苏格拉底方式，只不过，他已经全部过程已经完成了，演示给你看。

这样的有脑子的人，现在已经不少了，有不少讲历史的自媒体，影视频道，都可以参考。当然，水平差异还是很大的。

当然，有时候，一道好吃的菜，还是不知道是怎么做出来的好。如果画皮被剥去，下面鲜血淋漓，骨头内脏一堆脏兮兮的，你看了未必好受。

那再具体点说？子女学历史有什么用呢？说实话，用处不大，因为我们还是生活在“最好的时代”。根本不需要考虑宏大的问题。你只要抓住细节，就能过上好日子，比如：刷题，刷EC。这就是紫檀的主题。不过，等孩子们入了门，以后到了中层怎么发展，其实懂得人性还是很重要的，只不过很少有父母自己捅破了天花板，对这以后如何处理，天然就不懂，所以也抵触。

而“最好的时代”，这句话不是随口一说，1945年到现在是历史的黄金期，但历史的黄金期都是不能永久维持的，现在可能就在瓦解中。那么如果乱世来了，如何君子不立于危墙之下，就有讲究了。

当然，其实有很多人，天生的嗅觉灵敏，搞人水准高于搞硬核。他们不需要学历史，天生就知道。这样的人我们都见过，当然硬核专家们大概是鄙视这种人的。

最后，帖两个视频，估计也很少有人能有兴趣听完。

第一个，其实就是讲博雅教育不错的一种解读。
