The 20,000 of 26,000 schools do not matter to Harvard at all

Most US high school quality is so bad, Harvard wants none of the students from them, even the valedictorians.

That is not to say state universities do not have top quality students.

It just means the schools sending kids to top schools are very concentrated. These are basically the top high schools at each state and regions.
