Genetically speaking, the statement is correct! Maybe the "urgly" genes from the father sides are dominant-- they cancel the effect of the "pretty genes"from the mother sides.
From a population genetic perspective, 很多妈妈是美女-- but this only contributes to half of gene pool. Hahaha
