Respect is important

By doing sloppy work, he is not showing the teacher due respect (尊重).

He needs to learn to show respect to authority figures.

To grow up to be a respected person, he needs to learn to be respectful first.

Without knowing what respect is, how will he know to expect respect from others?

 

The teacher might think that your helping him is masking out his problem. The teacher wants to deal with his problem directly.
