I have pulled out graduation outcome data from a few major colleges. These colleges are the ones this forum is most interested about. This data is for Class 2019. I compared a few schools for Class 2020. The data is remarkably close for each program area. One interesting phenomenon to see is how hot computer scicence major becomes for the top schools including IVYs. I will post more for CS later.
We all know college admission officers try to form a well rounded class with the idea that some applicants will fill ceertain areas. When college freshmen entering the colleges first time, they have all sorts of ideas what they want to study. By the time they graduate, most are still attracted to certain pouplar programs.
For MIT as an example, its top1 programs are in engineering, the top2 area is computer science and top3 program area is in Math & Stats. it is not surprising. What it is surprising is how concentrated the students are in pursuing their undergraudate studies. MIT has 80% of their graduates majoring in the top 3 areas.
