Living situation in NYC

Advice is wanted from these from NYC area.

My son has been working in NYC for two years.  He lives in Mid Town Manhattan.   Since mid March, he came home in one of the western states.   He lives in NYC by himselves paying over $2000 a month.  Obviously he has been paying that for almost 4 months now without living there.  His lease will be expired by the end of August, and his property management company just told him to review the lease for the same rent.  My son knows a few of his friends just got one month and half break from their property management companies for renewal.  He wants to lower it to $1500 per month.  However, he is not sure if he even wants to do that.  His company said he does not have to return to NYC until early next year.  He naturally wants to stay in my place or move somewhere else for rest of the year.  The problem is that he has all his furnitures, personal stuff still in the apartment.  The management company said if he does not renew by July 15, they will start to show the property to others after that.  So he might have to fly to NYC to move his stuff out,  We are a little worried about flying.

My son suggested to his old real estate broker (whom he used last time) to advertise the property as furnished hoping people moving in will buy these furnitures.   He bought these furnitures (3 year old bed, a table, a sofa, and a cabnet) from the previous tenant for a little over $2000 two years ago.  He is not sure how successful it will be.  We are wondering how to make the move happen without actually going there.  My son is even willing to give away all the furnitures.  But he said, he may have to hire someone to deliver these furnitures to someone who wants them.  Is this true?

Suggestion is appreciated.  Sorry about not being able to write in Chinese.
