he has a problem respecting authority.  Authority needs to be respected.  Challenging authority wihtout a cause is not wise; it will only bring needless troubles.  He is also saying that I am not going to do it wihtout your forcing me, which is a slave mentality.

Where does this disrespect come from?  You need to find out.

(Give him more choices in life so that he feels less need to assert his will where it does not belong, e.g., "Honey, what do you want to eat for dinner today?")
