people from the same school

likes to hang around together. In certain area, it does not matter too much, but it matters a lot in other area. For example, most people in Silicon valley VCs are from Stanford. it is hard to break into that ring if you are not one of them.

My professor in computer architecture class used to say Stanford graduates always leads Berkely graduates in real work. I guess Stanford is probably more focusing on leadership trainning.
