to complete seal the mattress is very nice, because most likely the matresses in dorm are used ones. it's really useful to eliminate bed bugs or allergens, or dust mites.
You can then put on a mattress pad for cushion and a fitted sheet.
My son always packs a mattress case even for his global travel trips.
