Perhaps you may want to try in two ways.
1. buy a big basket that can take more 100 balls. You serve the balls, but told your son to just hit the balls with which he feels comfortable and to miss the “bad” balls. You don’t return his ball. Basically it’s a problem of match between the consistency of your serving and your son’s sense that things are under control. Ask your son to be patient at the first. After a while both your consistency and his skill are improved and the match comes in due time.
2. your son can learn to hit against a wall. It takes a while to get a sense. But once he can use a wall, it saves much time, money and feeling to each other. For some kids, it’s more easy for them to get a good sense of “being able to control the movement of the ball” so they like tennis more.
Good luck. Not every father plays tennis. But every father can help his son’s practice in a comfortable way.
