Single-vehicle crash takes life of Mountain View man
A single-car auto accident late Friday night on rural Seventh Street East took the life of the driver, a young Mountain View man who was reportedly to be wed the following day. His passenger, another 28-year-old male, was injured and hospitalized.
The victim was identified as Yan Wang, 28, a data science engineer who had been living in the Bay Area only a few months. He had previously lived in New York, which is where his passenger was from.
Shortly before midnight, the two men were headed southbound in a white 2010 Porsche Cayman, a two-person sports car, at what CHP described as an unknown rate of speed on the forested road.
The vehicle slid onto the right shoulder and struck a tree, became airborne and began to roll, eventually colliding with a fence and a second tree before coming to rest on its roof.
The vehicle sustained major damage and both men were trapped inside, requiring a lengthy evacuation process by first responders including Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue and the Schell-Vista Fire Protection District.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa with major head and neck trauma.
Both men were apparently using their seatbelts. CHP suspected that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, which took place in the 18000 block of Seventh Street East, north of Castle Road.
The report was received by law enforcement at 11:54 p.m.
