nothing wrong to be cautious, if you already agreed at the first place, and there is something called subtleness when you have any concerns. you can just tell them your concerns straight, then they might just open up and give you a tour to their house and tell you a lot about their family history. it happens all the time, it is your opportunities to learn other culture and people. Too bad, you blew it and made a mess out of it.
