Then, why does this type of stuff claims to be the academic rank

How can a bunch of clueless professors in Shanghai decide which university is greater than the other? Each single univesity (private or public, big or small, famous or not famous) is different from the rest. Nobody can possibly sort them into a linear order, regardless the so-called data they use. 

Sorry to say this for these rankings: Total Nonsense.
