What is important is how to talk about it. I think the way he talks about it is not all that bad. But something defintely needs to be rephrased.

Overall, I think it is a good piece of advice to let your kid talk about anything the he thinks important to him. He has to write it from his perspective. No college is interested in what you think and what you have to say. So keep your hands off on the topic of the essay but make suggestions on rhetoric to show sophistication.
