MIT is Asian boys', maybe all boys', dream school. Everyone wants to try. The boy applicant pool is much larger than girls. The boys with lower GPA ranks just want to try their luck, proping up the rejection rate. Girls are more self selected.

You also need to compare the stats, not just the rejection rate.
