I had talk to student finacial aid office. money in 401k is your salary and they add it to adjusted income. then they use adjusted income to find the aid you could get from school. Only your adjusted income and saving matter in student finacial aid. how much in your 401K is not affect your kid's finacial aid. University will use a normal living stand in your area to find the how much aid your kid could get.
