One can develop pretty good taste in music without actually playing them. If one has to learn how to play an instrument to develop a good taste, then all musics can only be appreciated by musicians. Musicians will have to entertain each other.
A child can develop coordination and solve problems in many different ways. Why does every chinese parent concentrate on PIANO? Many of us are very good academically without ever learning piano or any musical instrument.
Take it easy and let the children go. If they like piano, let them learn it. If it becomes a torture for them, let them quit. There are a million wonderful things in life, piano may just be one of them.
It is abnormal that all Chinese parents are forcing their kids to learn piano. A piano teacher told me that, in USA today, the only kids that are still seriously learning piano are the Chinese kids (forced by their parents of course). Very weird indeed. Absurd. Sad!
