This touches the soft spots of mine as well.

I think the life of children with stay-home mom are much better.  But our kids would survive as well. 

My solutions

1. Move close to school (in walking distance)

2. Ask my kids to take bus, then walk to the events

3. Find carpool (mainly kids arrange it with their friends)

4. Help other parents as much as you can when they need help that you can offer (quite often the far-away kids stay at my house if their parents can't pick them up)

5. Hire a driver - I paid $1000 total for my son's rides to his special event for one semester

 

Always try to make the best of it. Apply IVYs, AO may like him.
