因才施教 is the key. I don't think that your

daughter is 胸无大志. She has a clear goal for her life. She went to Harvard, graduated with honor, took GRE test and got into a top university for MS program.

I have no doubt that she is very gifted young woman. I also think that she must put good effort too. I don't believe that she just totally goofed off and still stayed at the top. Just like her friend said about her:"She study hard and play harder." I believe that success comes from hard work, which is NOT contradict with happiness.
