My hu*****and is also a physics ph.d in theoretical area, and of course, his dream was to be a professor. However, after 5 years of postdoc, he ended up in industry. That was in year 2000 when all the companies were hiring like crazy. He never really likes his job because he thinks his skills and strengths can not be used and appreciated at work. Although he stopped dreaming to be a professor, he keeps looking for better R&D jobs, which now is not easy as well since all the high-tech companies are not hiring that much.
