you will get accepted. Or more likely you will accept others. And others are more willing to spend their energy to understand your culture and your FEELING AND THINKING, because that might be beneficial (read: profitable).
Have you ever wonder why you have rarely spent any energy to understand the cutlure of Laos or Vietnam? Have you ever spend energy to THINK about their feelings? Because it is not beneficial. Yes, if a Vietnamese were working with you, you might casually ask them about Vietnam or how they feel about a particular incident (to show that you are knowledgable and friendly). But all in all, you won't study them comprehensively like you study America and American culture, events and customs. That is because you are to make profit, to survive, and to builing up a better future for your next generation.
Expecting a native speaking Americans to try to understand you or your culture is laughable. In their eyes, you are no different than what you feel about Vietnam or Lao (no offense) who they don't really care too much ... until it is profitable to care.
