My kid was invited to a birthday party that also said no gift. I still prepared a gift and I saw most kids came with gifts. I think either way is OK, whatever you feel comfortable. My other kid was invited to his friend’s Bar Mitzvah. The invitation said if you wanted to give a gift to him, you could donate your money to American Jew Associate. Then we just donated our money not gave him any gifts
