it is harder to get into the M.D. program later.
We had a Ph.D/M.D student 2 years ago who graduated from UChicago. I heard that his GPA is too low, and he had to go on a Master degree before he applied Ph.D./M.D. Luckily, he was considered as the smartest student among the group.
To 冰豆沙--buying the property is not going to solve the problem in short term. UIC did in that strategy to solve the dafety issue backing to at least 10 years ago. However, I have to say the UChicago campus is safe. The university pays very serious attention to safety in campus. From what I heard, as long as you don;t step out of the campus (it is said about 10 blocks away from campus is safe.), you are fine. Really, I have not heard many cases targeting students there.
