My daughter chose Spanish as her second language course. She completed Spanish 1 in 8th grade, then in high school she had honors spanish 2-4 during 9th-11th grade and now in her senior year she is studying AP Spanish. Her grades in Spanish were not so good (mostly B's and occasionally A's). If she had chosen to study Chinese, she could easily get A's but it would be not challenging enough for her. I personally think that my daughter made a correct choice by studying Spanish rather than Chinese at school (she is learning Chinese at home and now she can listen and speak but could not write). I guess Spanish is not an easy language to learn but will be definitely useful.
