He might get frustrated in the new environment. Be patient to him, timeout alone is not going to help. May be cut his days in daycare a bit short, such as picking him up earlier, or try to spend a little more time with him in the daycare. He will grow out of it when he gets familier with the day care. Have you talked to the teacher to pay closer attention to him? Maybe try to teach him to report to the teacher when he gets hurt, instead of hitting back. Hope your son will get better, poor kid :)
