She is right. We lived there for 6 years. You can go to Poly (Goverment hospital), I remembered only S$6. If you do not want to wait in long line, private doctors / clinics are also available (I remembered it is S$45 - 55 for my son back to 2002).

Singapore government DOES take care of the poors. I am working, but I support Obama's Medical Reform (I believe the concept is right but how to make it more fair and efficient - well that's not what I can judge.)
